Biographical Profile of Elsina Dean
Chair of Consulting Rosarians
Local Rose Society Membership: I belong to the Mother Lode Rose Society, the Sacramento Rose Society and the Sierra Foothills Rose Society.
Other Society’s & Groups: I founded the Foothill Garden Club in 1958 and it is still active. I belong to the Sierra Madre Garden Club, the Sacramento Arranger’s Guild, the Native Daughter’s of the Golden West where I hold an office, am a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Red Hat Society, and a former member of the Italian Catholic Federation. I founded the St. Mary’s Catholic Church prayer line and the Immaculate Conception Bereavement Committee - both of which I am very active. We have annual garden tours in our garden for different fund raising events. I still take oil painting classes on a regular basis.
I love to speak to various groups, promoting Rose Culture and often do. I write articles on gardening tid bits and rose culture for several quarterly newsletters . My husband and I have been married for 53 years, have 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. We love to play golf.
Years Growing Roses: I have grown roses for over 20 years on a limited basis but now I have over 300 roses of many varieties.
How I Started with Roses: My mother started my rose garden with cuttings from her O.G.R’s, several of which are still growing in my garden.
Profession: I am a retired Registered Nurse . I worked as a Head Nurse for 20 years organizing and setting up policies for Coronary and Intensive care units. I left that facility to set up a new Medical Office where I remained as Back Office Manager for 15 years.
Rose Society Offices: I have served as President of the Mother Lode Rose Society for 3 terms , Program Chair, Rose Show Chairperson, and C.R. Coordinator. I currently Chair the 2007 Conference.
