Years Growing Roses: 25

How I Started with Roses: When I was a kid we always had a pink rose growing in the front yard. The potted rose had been given to my mother's aunt as she was dying in the hospital in the early fifties. I liked it, but as a kid I never thought of growing my own plants. I got my first rose in the mail through a Plant Of The Month Club. It was something called 'Wedgewood Blue' which later turned out to be 'Blue Moon'. It grew a produced nice flowers, so the next year I bought 'Tiffany' 'John F Kennedy' and 'Mister Lincoln'. They grew very nicely, too. I saw an ad about a pruning demonstration at the Oakland Rose Garden. When I met those wonderful folks from the East Bay Rose Society I joined right there and have loved roses more ever since. And I now prune that 60 year old polyantha that was always "Aunt Jean's Rose" My Mom can't watch.
