Additional Comments (expanded biography):
Mike is a Bay Area Native who fell in love with growing roses as a boy alongside his Grandma Martina who was a gifted rosarian. Together they often cut roses before school for the teachers' desks and the chapel. The roses were always of such size and form that they inspired awe in an almost spiritual way for Mike.
He has grown roses for more than 10 years in Contra Costa, San Francisco, Solano and Santa Cruz Counties in California. He has also grown in North Georgia and the borough of Manhattan in NYC.
In 2021 Mike and his spouse Mike bought a bungalow and planted a rose garden in Martina's honor where they continue her legacy. The garden includes a Never Forget sub-garden. There are currently 70 different cultivars in the greater memorial garden. Types represented include HT, HP, Gr, Min, MinFl, P, LCl, Pol, Cl Pol, F, S, Ch, D, T, Sp., & HRg. Most of these roses are featured on his popular Instagram channel that has more than 3000 followers. Mike uses this platform to educate and promote the rose to people all over the world.
He is the President of North Bay Rose Society, a Director of San Francisco Rose Society, Northern California-Nevada-Hawai'i District Chairman of Programs, American Rose Society National Chairman of the Leadership Advisory Committee, and also serves on the American Rose Society National Marketing Committee.
Mike is also a member of Honolulu, Manhattan, Peninsula, Portland Rose Societies, the Canadian Rose Society and The Rose Society United Kingdom.
Mike is an ARS Horticulture Judge and Consulting Rosarian. He co-chairs the annual North Bay Rose Show and will co-chair the NCNH District Rose Show in 2025.
When not performing duties as the President of the SoJo Neighborhood in Vallejo or as a civic delegate of the AVNA, Mike practices art across many mediums including precious metals. He cares for his Yorkshire terrier Michael Patrick, and felines; Michael Louis, Michael Casper, Michael Clover, Michael Robin, and his homo sapien, Michael Greg.
